What is the safe temperature for your hair type?

How do you know what is a safe temperature to use on hair when using hot tools? Being that we all have different hair types that would most definitely mean we cannot share the same temperature. We have all seen, heard or experienced some sort of a damaging story caused by the improper use of hot tools in the past which have either traumatized us or plain have kept us away as far away from them as possible to not repeat that same experience again.
For starters I always recommend hair serum for the protection of the hair before starting thermal styling. I highly recommend Moroccanoil my favorite to use. Apply a small amount to clean, towel-dried hair to mid-length to ends. Blow dry or let dry naturally. After this important step we move on to the flat ironing..
It is important that we first invest in high quality tools for example flat irons. If the flatiron is good quality it should last you up to 10 years. I recommend irons that have ceramic plates. I personally love and use the Ultra CHI vivid pink flat iron. This iron has tourmaline ceramic plates that add moisture and shine to the hair. It penetrates the hair from the inside out and reduces frizz and static electricity which is a plus for me being that my hair is super frizzy. The one thing it does not have is a dial for the temperature so when using this particular tool you just have to glide down the hair at a slow to medium pace depending on your hair type. Fine hair requires less heat, medium textured hair requires a bit more heat and coarse hair requires most heat. The Ultra CHI vivid pink iron reaches a temperature of 390 degrees F.
Fine and damaged hair should not exceed over 300 degrees F (same for chemically treated hair).
Normal hair can be ironed at 300-380 degrees F. Thick and coarse or extra curly hair at 350-400 degrees F. If your iron has a dial you should start with a lower setting and increase as needed.
After knowing the temperatures to use according to your hair type you should have no problem getting your hair to not only look great but feel healthier and that is something to smile about.
